The Red Lip Edit
February 21, 2016
Hello lovelies! For today's post I have a quick red lip recap where I'm going to share with you a few picks from my humble a lip collection. Personally I'm not that gal who'd reach for the red lip on a daily basis, but occasionally I love that classy red lip look, whenever I want to look extra glamorous for events. Keep on ready to find out which ones are my faves, which ones you should steer clear from and which one is the most unique of the bunch!
I feel that no lipstick collection can be compete without the perfect classic red lip, so here are a few options for you to check out;
Starting with a favorite, Rimmel Appocalips in shade Burning Lava - it's such a gorgeous dark cool toned red with a highly pigmented mousy formula. I love how nice and comfortable it feels on the lips, the color is just gorgeous and has a semi matte finish. I think this one gets the most wear out of the bunch and I really love it!
Another fave is Miss PUPA Velvet Matt in the shade 003. It's a cool toned red that almost leans to the pink tones, I find it to be very flattering and even makes the teeth appear whiter. It has a completely matte finish, yet despite it's finish it's extremely soft and comfortable on the lips. This one also has a richly pigmented formula and a long lasting power which barely transfers from the lips once dried.
It was a parts of a limited summer collection maybe two years back, so I don't think it's available anymore, but I'm sure you can get your hands on a similar shade and finish since PUPA have a huge lip color selection available at any time.
If you are on the look for a more classy finish and shade, then Lancome's L'Absolu Rouge in Rouge Grand Coeur might be an option you'd like to check out. It has a soft and hydrating formula with a lovely sheen to it, a very classic neutral red tone. I just can't get over how gorgeous the packaging is, and how nice it feels on the lips. The formula is absolutely buttery and lovely, scented with the Lancome signature scent. Love it!
There are a few cheaper options in the bunch as well... A good one to try it Essence Adorable Matt #14, it's a cool toned creamy red with a semi matte finish. This is not the one that will last trough the entire day, but it offers a pretty fair formula and a decent pigmentation, so considering the low price it's definitely worth the try.
Another red lip option from Essence that I was tempted to try was their XXXL Longlasting The Matt lipgloss (?) in the shade Silky Red. I tried another shade from this range in the past and I really loved it; it was a soft nude shade which felt extremely soft and comfortable on the lips, unfortunately it just didn't work the same with Silky Red. While the formula is the same, this combo just didn't work for me. Application wasn't uniform and you can basically wipe it off entirely without any effort. With this particular product I think it's best to stick to the neutral shades to get the best out of this silky soft formula.
To finish this post I'd like to mention another quite interesting products which I probably underestimated, yet now I think it's rather neat! I guess I'm not the only one who can't ignore the fact that Korean beauty has been a great inspiration for many western brands, and so I like to keep up to speed on any new Korean beauty launches and trends. A while ago I spotted a new lip launch from MISSHA; the Painting Rouge range features two finishes, Syrup (glossy) and Chiffon (matte). Since it was a new launch, I couldn't even find any reviews or real swatches of this product, still I decided to give this a go. When it arrived I was quite disappointing that it wasn't as matte as I hoped it would be. Upon first application is appeared fairly glossy to me, yet it was later on that I discovered how unique this product actually was! When you blot away some of the product from the lip, they instantly get this soft airbrushed matte finish. The more you blot it, the more you get that soft faded matte stain. This product is perfect for creating that soft gradient lip look which is the most popular Korean lip trend. This unique formulation also feels incredibly soft on the lips, and something about it reminded me of these cream to powder blushes products which feel weightless on the skin. That whole experience made me want to try other shades from the Chiffon range, and more innovative products from Korean brands in general!
I hope you enjoyed this post and found it helpful if you were on the hunt for a new red lip option to try. Let me know in the comments below which is your winning red lip choice!
Thanks for reading and have a fabulous week!
xoxo
