From Square to Almond

I've been thinking about changing my nail shape to almond for a while, and today I finally decided to do it!
Keep reading if you would like to know what led me to this change and how I feel about my new nails.

If you have been following me on Facebook & Instagram, you probably already knew about this dilemma for a few days. I even Photoshopped my hand and created a simulation with almond nails to see how it might look like on me! (How crazy is that?! lol)

I felt like I needed a change in my life, even the slightest, and I thought that changing my nails could be a good start. I don't know why, but I've noticed that I wasn't as excited about nail polish as I used to be, and I really hated it. I just needed something to get me excited about nails again.
I can't say I always loved the almond shape, in fact I hated it for a while, but a silly nail break somehow made me change my mind about it and want to give it a try.

I've been rocking the square nails for a few years now, and it took me a while to find a nail shape & hand pose which I was really pleased with. It even came to a point that many of my followers can spot my nail photos in the crowd right away, and I was afraid to lose that uniqueness.
Many of you weren't even happy about the idea of me changing my nail shape, some of you really like my long square nails, and apparently some really hate the almond shape in general and think it makes a hand look old, so it was a hard decision for me.

There were a few reasons that led me to this change; First, I just needed a change! :)
Although I like my nails square, my natural nail shape is pretty much almond on it's own. If I cut it along the free edge, it will grow rounded/almond.
Other than that, I hated that my nails tend to curve in and lose their squareness, and I assumed that shaping them to almond might solve this issue.
I personally think that there's something really pretty and feminine about almond nails, even sexy!
I still need to get used to my new nails, and I might retouch the shape a bit as I go, but overall I kinda like it at the moment.
I'm not sure how it's going to work with my current hand pose, I'm not completely sure I like it this way, but I guess we'll have to work with and it and see how it goes...

On my nails I'm wearing PUPA Lasting Color Gel in Carnal Pink 022, it appears much brighter in photos. In person it's more of a pink berry shade. I also picked this polish because of it's curved brush (which I adore!), and I even noticed that the new nail shape makes nail polish application much easier! I can't really explain how, but I know if you'll try it you will understand. ;)

I would love to hear what you think about this change. Do you like it? Would you / did you change your nail shape, and how did you feel about it?

  1. I love it! The almond shape fits your hands very well (but maybe I'm a little biased on this topic since I always had almond shaped nails). But its good to see other shapes than all the squares out there ;-)
I'm thinking about about changing my shape from almond to square, but I don't think I will ever do it ... too afraid it coludn't fit me.

  4. Congrats on your new shape! I'm a big lover of almond/oval myself, and it's a little sad to see how the majority of bloggers turn to square regardless of it suiting their hands or not. So it's definitely nice to see some diversity. And I know now I'll be enjoying your beautiful posts even more! :D

  11. I like the almond shape on you! It's very feminine and seems to be becoming a much more popular shape among nail artists. We have a similar hand shape so I always love seeing what you do with your nails :-) I prefer square for me because that is more natural for how my nails grow. Pretty cool that your nails grow round! Your nails are healthy and that is what's most important! I totally get what you mean about square nails curving in too. I noticed recently that my nails flatten out a lot after a shower or washing hands, I guess because of the water! I found that pretty interesting.
