OMG Nail Strips in Purple Spots - Review
September 11, 2013
I got the chance to review for you the OMG Nail Strips, and in this post I will be showing the first design I chose - Purple Spots, which is a cute Leopard print in purple and pink.
These nail strips are quite similar to other brands that are out there, like Sally Hansen and Incoco, and I've seen similar products by Essie and OPI, so I guess you are probably familiar with this concept and application. I think these strips are a bit different because of their material and how they felt while applying them, but the process is as easy and the result is very pretty.
The OMG Nail Strips package contains 14 nail strips, not a large amount but for me they fit quite good and I didn't have problems picking the right size for my nails. The strips are quite long, so they will fit nicely if you have long nails, or you could use one strip to apply on two nails, if you have short nails (You will need to trim the strips and round them in this case, because they are not double sided as Sally Hansen's strips for instance).
The strips were not sealed completely in the package, unlike other brands that carry real nail polish strips, and they didn't smell like nail polish at all, so I'm not sure of these are made from real nail polish or not, but they did feel a lot like regular stickers to me.
The strips were very thin, stretched easily and had a very sticky backing, maybe even stickier than usual. Application was quite easy, I didn't have much trouble aligning them (tho they were a bit too sticky for me and in some cases I had to realign them on the nail a few times to place them correctly).
I decided to try to remove the excess of the nail strips with a technique that Anutka from Wacki Laki showed recently at her blog, using a q-tip soaked in acetone instead of filing the excess, but this didn't work so good for me this time. I also might have pulled the strips over the tips of my nails too much (don't know why I though this was a good idea) so the tips of my nails were not done perfectly. I think this is a good method that can give a "wrapped tips" look which I like, so I might give it another try sometime soon. If you are a beginner, I would advice to stick with the application instructions tutorial that OMG Nail Strips posted at their site.
The instructions of these nail strips say that you should apply a top coat to seal the design, which I didn't skip this time, and tho the finish of the nail strips was very smooth and quite glossy, I believe this is a necessary step to get your designs last longer.
This design was very cute and I love this pattern on my nails, I think I need to include more animal prints in my life from now on. As for the wear of these strips, I can't provide accurate information because of the mistake (or should I say mess?) I made while removing the excess from the tips, which eventually caused a horrible tip wear after the shower I took a few hours later. Even tho I wrapped my tips with a top coat, the tips peeled off badly after this' leaving sticky residue at the tips, probably because of my faulty application. I believe that if you apply these as instructed and file the excess + wrap the tips with a top coat, and also don't pull the strips over the tips as I did, you will get a better wear. I will be testing this with the second set and will report about my second experience.
If you are looking to get a creative and quick manicure, this product might be a good solution for you.
OMG Nail Strips offer for sale a large range of nail strips and nail foils at their site, the price is affordable and not expensive at all, and they even ship worldwide for free. You can also find OMG Nail Strips on Facebook and Instagram.
I hope you like this manicure and find this review useful. Let me know if you have any questions regarding this product.
Thank you for reading!

ReplyDeleteSoooo pretty!! I loved it!
ReplyDeleteI think Wacki Lacki's tip may not have worked because hers were nail polish strips and as such would melt/disolve like nail polish
ReplyDeleteI have to agree. This must work better with nail polish strips. I def need to try this again!
DeleteThey look so pretty on you! And what a beautiful kitty :).
ReplyDeleteThank you dear ;)
DeleteThe nail strips are gorgeous! Love the design.
ReplyDeleteI'm sad that the acetone trick didn't work for you. I will have to try it with the OMG strips. I've only tried it with the Incoco ones and it worked so well :(
Thanks! I am planning on trying this method again with real nail polish strips, I think your idea was great!
